Appreciation Post: Thank you for the Vitamin D!

sunshinecover

The wordpress community here is overflowing with warmth and brilliance. It’s really nice to bath in wonderful posts and lively comment discussions, which is why I enjoy reading both posts and comments!
I think it is appropriate to see these wonderful authors and commenters as sunshine people (or sunflowers!) because their vivid style and engagement are deserving of more than just praises.

Though I’m can’t say that I’m that bright or warm of a person myself, I really appreciate both Crackdown-さん and Spooky-さん for nominating me for the Sunshine Blogger award. Crackdown-花 writes great reviews particularly for movies (modern and classics), introducing a lot of films which I’ve never seen or heard before – He’s your guide if you wanna look for interesting movies – and always have something good to say about them!
Spooky-花 is currently on hiatus, but when she’s active, you are guaranteed interesting facts and ideas of anything under the sun! Films, anime, books, etc… Even if you are not familiar with the content, the facts alone make you think – and can be a nice starting point to get acquainted with the series concerned!

I’ll answer Crackdown-花’s questions first!

Discussion time?

  • Do you prefer dogs or cats?
    I’ve had lovely encounters with dogs. So dogs!
  • Who is your favorite artist or idol where you make it as a meaning of life or motivation?
    Wow this is a difficult question… There’s a local songwriter called Liang Wern Fook who creates really inspiring chinese SG-style music. I’ve always loved his compositions, which can be pretty humourous at times too!
  • Are you doing blogging just because of hobby or is there something else?
    Definitely just as a hobby 🙂
  • Are you proud of who you are now?
    I’ll admit that I will never be satisfied with who I am now both as a person and in terms of my achievements. Understandably, everyone has their own pace and progression. Eventually I believe I would reach a point where I’ll think and say “Yeap, it’s good to be who I am now.” But as of currently, there’s still a lot of room for growth and even more things to understand.
  • What is your dream and what if it isn’t achieved?
    Just as I am idealistic, I can be just as dreamy (there are too many dreams! >.<). Many of these probably can’t be achieved, but I’ll bet on the ones where I might even have the slightest chance – that I’ll bet on becoming an inspiring person for one special person, as well as for future generations (you know, science and education goes hand-in-hand).
  • What do you think about the nowadays movie with the classic ones?
    I have very little exposure to films, but I think classics are more beautiful than modern flicks in the artistic sense. Movies these days are definitely great for their aesthetic displays though.
  • Is there any something that you can’t express it? I mean, are you having a hard time or things like that?
    Haha, there’s no such thing as an easy time I think (If there is, he/she probably reached enlightenment!). There are lots of things I don’t express, it is concerning, but ultimately hard times grind a person to become someone greater and resilient.
  • Do you love rock or metal?
    I tend to prefer the soothing ballads, but I can get into rock and metal depending on the tune of the music! As long as it is not too extreme!
  • Who is your favorite movie director and why?
    I barely research on any movie directors before/after watching a movie, but my favourite has to be Don Bluth for his amazing works on animations like An American Tail and The Land Before Time. He also worked as an animator for The Fox and the Hound. All of which are my most-loved non-japanese animation movies.
  • Maybe this is a bit rude, do you feel your existence is more useful in this life or vice versa? I’m sorry.
    No need to be sorry, I think this is an interesting question!
    Having lived only a quarter of my (projected) lifespan, it is difficult to answer this question with certainty. However I think that the usefulness of our existence depends on the impact we have made on our community – no matter how big or small it (they) is. It also takes time to realize our potential, so perhaps if we haven’t proved to be useful yet, that may still change in the future!
    My usefulness… has probably been limited so far, but I’ll still be trying to enrich this existence of mine so that it doesn’t go to waste (I’ll never know if I’ll have a next life).
  • Do you feel like you were better than you are now or vice versa? It’s like, childhood is better than being an adult or whatever?
    Let’s just say that childhood is definitely better than adulthood! You get to sleep for long hours; less concern of deadlines and expectations; make real wonderful friends… …
    But that’s just the child inside me speaking. I want to do something more than just relaxing all the time. In fact the void scares me at times! Being open to opportunities and risks puts me at ease because then I’ll have something to do, and more to explore & work on.

~~~~~
And now… let me not get spooked by Spooky-花’s questions!
tamako-gif-39
Please tell me there are easier questions here!
  • Do you have any comfort foods?
    Potato chips and nuts. It’s more like snacks rather than actual food. But they help when I want to eat my troubles away. Better for my stomach to be full than my brain to be full!
  • Fish or hamsters?
    I actually had fish and hamsters as pets before! Hamsters are a lot more responsive, and can be really endearing when they acknowledge you as companions.
    So hamsters!
  • What’s a sure-fire way to cheer you up?
    Now that I think about it, I usually cheer myself up so it’s kind of weird for someone else to try to cheer me up haha. But the one time someone else did, they did something really wacky that made me go (what are you doing?!?!) which did pull me away from the rainclouds. Not sure if it is sure-fire though~
  • What’s your proudest achievement?
    As of currently, it has to be me completing my final year project and graduating with honours. Reason being it made my parents really happy, and I’m glad to provide that happiness.
    Personally, I’m proud to be able to draw anime-style illustrations. There’s still room for improvement though! And I’m working on it!
  • Do you have any obsessions?
    I have a thing with collecting stuffs (even if they are very old and kind of obsolete, I still keep them too) – Notes, Anime wallpapers, Anime gifs (yes definitely, memes too), and also Holo.
  • If you could only pick between eating chocolate or ice-cream for the rest of your life, which would you choose?
    I know that eating chocolate can boost your happiness because of the (legal) drugs in them. But I don’t like chocolate, so I will freeze my internal organs by eating ice-cream for the rest of my life.
    And I can choose my flavours! Some occasional chocolate still works.
  • Do you have any strange fears?
    I used to have this fear of being unable to hear at all, because my ears were once clogged for a few days. It was really scary listening to silence (or the background ‘yinnnnn‘ sound) I thought I was going deaf.
    My ear got blocked again just a week ago, but I wasn’t as flustered as before. Still, it was rather worrying and not a great experience.
    * Then I came across Koe no Katachi. *
  • What’s your dressing style? (e.g. preppy, grunge, casual)
    Casual and green!
  • What’s your favourite type of monster?
    Someone like Kusakabe Yuki will instantly be my favourite!
    Haha okays, I’m referencing this site, so it will be Kitsunes!
  • How long have you been blogging for?
    It’s almost a year (for this blog)! Let’s just take it as that ^^
  • Any secret talents that we should know about?
    I can control my dreams when I’m dreaming. Therefore, I usually remember them when I wake up. This was something I discovered just 4 years ago though.
Hmm… If I have to be a sunflower, then I gotta be more sunny than I actually am now. I’ll be trying! In the meantime, the rest of you bloggers are wonderful sunflowers too!
You know… You! Yea you!
*
In any regard, I’m still going to dig the not-so-random randomizer to give a couple of shout-outs to some bloggers~
1] Yuu & Teatime (Teach us shogi and japanese language sometime too!)
2] Matt Q&A (I know you’re not new, but for some reason sun beams are shining in your direction… … 🤔🤔🤔)
And the questions are… … (11 is probably too many, how about 5?)
1] What’s the most awesome thing you’ve done so far?
2] Ship or Plane?
3] What kind of rock would you be, if you were one?
4] Suppose something happened and you’d have to gamble your life on it. What would that be?
5] Any cool advice on what’s the best way to soak up sunshine?
Again, there is no obligation to participate, I just want to let you peeps know that I appreciate you for being you, and being in the blogging community! Anyone who wants to tackle the questions in the comments, go ahead! どうぞ!
That’s all for this post folks, and thanks for reading!
Take care~
Living life little by little as I try to understand how life works. As complex as it is, so as I am, it may take a lifetime to understand. But regardless it is not pointless to pursue a near-impossible goal.
    Wait..what? You can control your dreams…?? Wow, I wish I had a talent like that 😮😮 Congratulations on this well deserved award! And what do you mean you are not a bright or warm person yourself? You are kidding right? Just in case that you are not, one only has to look at this award and the wonderful post you made for it, to prove you wrong 😊
    • Haha as always thanks Raistlin! You’re like the Santa who always carries a bag of endess compliments and awesomeness!
      (Yeap July is definitely Christmas)
      Wellllll… The “warm and bright” story I’ll talk about it in another post, but its like I try think I am and eventually it becomes ‘real’.
      Heheheh, yes and after last night’s dream, I have a theory which I’m considering to work on when I have the time… …
      *
      Bleaugh, back to the start! Really thank you loads for the constant stream of optimism Raistlin!
      And hey! Comments are working now, ^^ (well… at least here…)
        Haha…well, that’s a good thing you said at the end: at least here. I had to sent notices to about 10 or more blogs where it didn’t work. I really is totally annoying.
        Lol…I never considered myself to be a Santa. But it’s very nice of you to say so. Thank so much for this very kind comment. It really brought a smile to my face especially since I have just woken up here 😊
    Graduating with honours is amazing! So is lucid-dreaming…I tried so hard to even be able to achieve it inconsistently!
    Is there a reason you attach 花 to people’s names? It’s kind of cute.
    Liked by 1 person
    • Haha I was thinking that this appreciation post or award relates to sunflowers in general, so I attach the kanji/chinese word for flower to their names :3
      *
      Honours is great haha, it makes my parents really happy! Though the real challenge is translating that achievement so it doesn’t look like some mere display trophy for some self-gratification.
      *
      I think lucid dreaming will be easier if you pretend sleeping is like playing VR? :3 Just a theory X’D.
    Oh man. Liang Wen Fook. His songs really take me back. I remember singing his songs in primary school and it really just hits you with the childhood nostalgia.
    (Let’s agree to disagree that cats are obviously the superior creatures here)
    Also honours? W. O. W. That is impressive. I can’t even begin to imagine the amount of hard work and effort it takes to achieve that. It may be a bit late but congrats!
    Also are you perhaps a lucid dreamer? I heard that those who can control their dreams are lucid dreaming which is pretty darn awesome. I wish I could summon a harem of anime characters in my sleep =_=
    Liked by 1 person
    • They are considered gods/goddesses in the Ancient Egyptian culture, and since old is to wise, I’ve got to agree that cats are certainly superior to dogs! (They’ve figured out how to control humans!!! Shhh… don’t let them know I know that…)
      *
      Yea, that nostalgia always warms up the heart somewhere. Personally my favourite is definitely 太多太多. Interestingly, it’s also one of the longest song out of all the songs he composed.
      *
      I’ve not dreamt of my harem of anime characters… Maybe I just don’t acknowledge them being able to exist in reality… 😭
      I don’t really know why I’m able to control my dreams somewhat though, but its nice that I have less nightmares because of that.
      *
      Before I forget, a very big thank you for dropping by and commenting (I practically didn’t do that for the comment in the other post). Hard work is definitely one requirement, though I can’t say I had been consistent with that in my final year 😆. Also, I think insanity (or sanity, depends on how you look at it) is also a relevant criteria, haha.
      *
      Again, Thanks Hats! 🙂
      Too bad my dad doesn’t approve of dogs haha.
      Bloggers with dogs should rally and create a collage of them with their dogs!
    Wow, this is been a long time since I also almost forgot about this award. I just can’t believe you can control a dream. I mean, it’s amazing for me to be able to do things like that. I wanted to try it but I was like a bat sleeping in the morning. In a nutshell, I have an abnormal sleep. If you can control your dream, what world do you wake up in your dream? I mean, I ask too many questions but this only makes me curious. It may be like the world of the otaku fantasy which is the harem of the world. It’s kinda embarrassing personally if you know for me for trying to talk about that. By the way, it’s kinda cute when you put “san” at the names. Thank you. 🙂
    • Usually my dreams are alternate realities (I see the same people I know – family, friends). The places are slightly different in their positions (e.g. 2 additional train stations / roads are linked differently).
      I can control how the dreams progress, but I cannot control what dream world I enter into.
      One time I entered a dream where I was in an arcade with a friend I knew, and the arcade game we were ‘playing’ was actually a machine to transfer our consciousness into wherever it is (which I guess is the ‘real world’ when I am awake). It’s very weird really.
      Thanks for dropping by and chatting!
        Maybe it’s just me who thinks like that where it makes me like a weeb 😅. I think lucid dream for me is almost the same as the movie called Inception or something related to the subconscious or something else where you can make your dream world in there. I watch too many movies and anime. Need a lot of time to rest. Thank you. 😁
      • Haha no I think you are fine!
        I did have a dream a week ago where I started to see fictional characters (just a couple) in my dreams. I’m getting influenced by the shows I watched XD
        Liked by 1 person
      • CrackReview says:
        I ask such questions because I always feel them when a fictional story that I’ve watched and retain in my memory until an obsession, I often ask that questions to my friends (of course who also have the same hobby) and they also experienced the same thing. 😀
