Tag-You’re-It: I’m now a 2-Dimensional lover~

Once I had this conversation with my friends.

We all know that mirrors reflect light – so light reflected off an object, which is then reflected off a mirror, allows us to see the object in the mirror. But mirrors are made of glass and a thin layer of silver metal. Even the most efficient mirror would have a limited efficiency where it doesn’t reflect back all the light that hits it, in other words some light is absorbed.
So this friend of mine had quite a few girl friends (see that space in the middle there?), and we were all comparing his situation with the case of multiple mirrors in an optical system (Note: This discussion/joke was stimulated by a physics module on optics which we were taking). And the bottom line was this:

“Having more girl friends to juggle is like adding more mirrors to the system. The reflective efficiency of the optical system decreases. Correspondingly, having more girl friends gives more problems and it is going to mess up your social life.”

– Me

Of course, I meant it as a joke. Please don’t be offended by the analogy and comparison I made – We are free to do as we wish, although I suggest committing to one because we don’t want to see the classic case of School Days.

So now it seems that I have a problem. Because harems technically pose the same issues (Reverse-harems apply all the same!). And now that I’ve been nominated to build a harem by none other than our resident analytical blogger CarnivorousLMongoose and our magical starry Astral.
You know what would be a good idea? Pausing this read and heading over to their pages to check out these dudes (I got this right, right?). I assure you that their harems are whole-heartedly huggable, and for very good reasons! LMongoose picks the best (huggable) girls (and ‘girl’) making for a nice down-to-earth harem. On Astral’s side, he looks to be dominated (really really badly).
You are curious now aren’t you? So why not see what’s up with their picks? (If Astral is still alive till this day because of his harem).

Ah, I inserted that <read more> code there by mistake, but I think it’ll work out. Actually, no I’m actually hoping it would be a good distraction to not do the harem project. How I got myself in this situation is only exacerbated by the fact that I recently attained Light Novel Protagonist status on the aniblogger discord channel (Thanks Astral). Building stuff is one of the things I like to do – You know, LEGO has these instruction manuals on how to put parts together. Hearing the ‘clicks’ make the process so satisfying (for some reason). Therefore, instructions are important! Let’s get to that!

Rules on how to build a harem!

Wait… hold on, that doesn’t seem like the correct instruction manual.

Rules on how not to fall in love:

  1. Link back to the original post on Anime QandA so they can check out everyone’s picks!
  2. Use the ‘Build A Harem’ logo somewhere in the post.
  3. Make sure to mention the person who nominated you too!
  4. Pick 5 anime characters (any show & any gender) that would be in your ideal harem if you were the main character of a harem anime, explain a little bit as to why they are your picks (if you want).
  5. Make sure each character you pick falls into some of the following harem character types: Childhood friend, tom boy/girl, genki girl/boy, loli/shota, trap, tsundere, yandere, kuudere, dandere, etc.(If there’s a character you’ve picked that doesn’t specifically fall into one of these types or falls into multiple types that’s fine too!)
  6. Nominate 5 people to participate in this tag!

I’m actually in a really tight spot here, because I do not want to include my favourite and admired characters in the harem. Such a harem will run on for eternity, besides a number of them are dead in canon.
Let me think for a moment… what kind of harem do I want? I think a peaceful and idealistic lets-all-get-along mood with a bit of playful competition would be the kind I prefer. Hmm… Ok let’s go with that!

Lawrence: Is the manager influenced by our relationship?
Holo: No you fool, that person isn’t even thinking! Not dreaming even!
Lawrence: What our manager said sounds like a dream to accomplish.
Holo: With such an inarticulate dream, I only foresee the future of a lonely soul.

{Ichika Takatsuki} // {The transient meganekko}

I don’t actually know what kind of dere type Ichika is, but I do know that she’s that benevolent worrywart who would do just about anything to help her friends. While she can be a gentle klutz, she also holds a serious side which she wouldn’t hesitate to adopt to guide her friends.
It’s pretty obvious that she’s the motherly choice. No?

{Mira Yurizaki} // {The emotional robot}

You know what I can do here? A checklist!
Cat ears ✅ | Tail ✅ | Expressive ✅ | Daughter-like ✅ | Sense of justice ✅
Aside from being designed to be cute, Mira is ambivalent – She can be genki angel or a panic mess depending on the situation. Seeing someone so expressive is not only interesting but also adorable. Also she doesn’t mind doing lots of work and analysis, and would be the greater mind to reinforce the club altogether!
She loves attention, I’m sure the attention from her friends and myself would keep that smile on her face 🙂

{Chaika Trabant} // {The pure princess}

There are many Chaikas like this one, but this one belongs in my harem.
If going to school means seeing Chaika and interacting with her in the cliqueharem, those would be the greatest school days of my life! (Spoilers: I don’t talk much in school) I don’t think there’s really a need to explain her presence in the harem. This innocent strong-willed girl is going to get along with everyone else really easily!
Did I mention that she has thick eyebrows?

{Tsubomi Kido} // {The invisible actor}

Somehow every character in my previous picks were a combination of genki+something where I can’t really point out which character trope they specifically reside in. Tsubomi’s completely different though – As the leader of the Mekakucity dan she (not a he) denies any form of nonsense and is in charge of everything from mission planning to execution. She’s a rather interesting character, being a mix of kuudere, dandere and tsundere while also taking on the role of the childhood friend AND tom girl at the same time!
I know it’s crazy, but she’s just that amazing (complex), I’m sure everyone else in the harem will be very accepting of her and help her grow.

{Tsuchimikado Natsume a.k.a Hokuto} // {The reincarnated shaman}

I have to include Natsume in this harem. She’s responsible and understanding with a love that seems almost motherly, and also child-like at times. Plus her shy tsundere tendencies, she’s a great supporting character for the protagonist and supporting casts alike.
Apart from conventional social etiquette, she also has a mysterious side rumoured to be playful and energetic. Being able to channel her focus into both personalities makes her a good role model in the harem.
Also, it would be cute to see them pouts with all the other girls in the harem gathering.

~ ~ ~

No anime characters have been mistreated in/as-a-result-of the construction of this harem.

Although I may have completed the harem, looking back there isn’t a lot to distinguish them apart by their character tropes. Well, I do have an extraterrestrial, a cyborg, a magician, a normal person and a shaman, of which its 3.5 parts genki and 1.5 parts reserved. Though none of them are yanderes, they are all equally dangerous in their respective ways – I certainly wouldn’t want to offend any of them, no matter how big-hearted they may be.

This is seriously such an awesome tag idea from Mattエッチ (You read this as: Matt-chi), I’m definitely going to keep the ball rolling with the nominations (One sec, let me see who hasn’t been nominated yet…).
Okay! Back! As a disclaimer, I’m not going to pressure or force my victims nominees to respond to the tag, but I guarantee it will be a really fun experience if you do take on the DIY job! (Also, I’m curious!)

I mean uh… I think she mean queue not kill.

A] RemyRemy (I understand Arthifis tagged you for this too, but if you’re alright with another pingback and have spare time after working on your current projects, this could be dessert…)
B] Spooky-nyan (I saw a pingback, and make that double ^^)
C] Ryuji-先輩 (Hey, when you’re back, wanna try this? No pressure though~)
D] Smily-さん (How have you been doing? Hope things are alright over at your side)
E] Nerdy-さん (I think you might not have been tagged for this yet, what do you think?)
* I know that I tagged a couple of people who seem to be on hiatus, so I’ll add some more to this tag-list to even things up.
F] MissHats (I know you came back a little while and are still busy, but if you are up for a little fun when you’re free, you have an added choice to construct a harem haha)
G] PurpleMirror (Yeap it’s another tag if you wanna do it. With the many waifus you’ve selected over different seasons, what say a harem? :3)

Thank you for visiting and watching me build my harem!
Any thoughts on this protagonist and/or the club members? I look forward to hearing what you have in mind!

Again thanks for reading! And show’s over folks!
Take care~

    Wonderful post: I got nominated for this one a few weeks ago and had to do a lot of research (which was fun to be honest) as I have never watched a harem anime.
    I don’t know any of these characters unfortunately, but if I were to pick a favorite I would say it’s Hokuto. She looks really nice 😊

    • Haha it was difficult to select and write about them actually. I have a soft spot for Kido because she’s a very complex character who grew a lot through the Kagerou series,but can’t say I got a different kind of emotional attachment to her haha. Hokuto however is a different thing altogether 😛
      Nice choice of a favourite XD
      I think you would enjoy Tokyo Ravens quite a lot and see her personality in full display. She’s an absolutely lovable character :))

    Good seeing Chaika getting some attention. Just don’t let her try and cook with magic.

  4. Just The Luminous Mongoose is fine for next time!

    Also, good choices though MY waifus are better :)))))))))))

    • Your choices are definitely w̰̳̮̘̺͞a̫̙̙̻̍i͔̙͙̇ͨ̿͛̎́f̶̠̫̞u͍̪͐͋͗̓ wife material!
      I’m sure I’m going for an eternal harem here… … *don’t tell these girls they are not good enough though* D:

  5. Hat says:

    So. I always wanted to go to build-a-bear but never really did so this is MY CHANCE. Even if I don’t get a physical form of my creation, I can still customise them right? Right? Sigh. Why is the 2D world not possible in the 3D. Come on Apple, you’re slacking.

    Also thanks Holo-Lawrence-combi! I actually have never quite seen these characters around before. They look pretty cool (love the cat ears). But I guess I need to delve deeper into the anime-verse for “education purposes”.

    Also I may be AFK more often now but I’ll try to at least finish this tag if my name ain’t Hattricka Von Puffington. (If this was actually my name, I would be the Lord of a small country with an actual harem instead of simply forming a fictional harem at 9 in the morning =_=)

    • Anime has always been “educational”. Can’t expect any less from the creative minds of the land of the rising sun XD
      No worries, as I’ve mentioned work around your study-blogging schedule as it is best for you! Definitely sounds delightful to be an isekai protag with a harem (*ahem* how to… *cough* summon *cough* a harem).
      A harem won’t be fictional if there are dakimakuras! (oh god the prices of those).

  6. Oh nice harem! This was interesting to read 🙂 And thank-you for the tag!!

  7. Not to be bossy or anything, but エッチ is read “ecchi” so “Mattエッチ” would be “Matt ecchi”…

    …welp, it does actually fit Matt’s preferences somewhat, so I kind of get it. (By the way, what you might’ve wanted was “Mattッチ”.)

    Otherwise, out of your harem, I’m only familiar with Kido…so no comment there.

    Liked by 1 person

    • Haha yea I knew it would be read Matt-ecchi, I went ahead and interpreted it to be read quickly so the ‘e’ became silent XD.
      No worries, here I have introduced a few more girls you can be friends with ^^, and they aren’t the violent type (except Kido X’D)… unless you wanna be dominated too~ :3

  8. Thank you for the nomination! Hopefully I’ll be able to put my own harem together soon 😆

    Nice to see Ichika on the list. Her series is so underrated. Your post has reminded me that I still need to watch season two of Coffin Princess.

    • Ano Natsu is great (uhh.. I’m a little annoyed by the comedic sci-fi but still…) especially because of its songs!
      Personally S2 of Coffin Princess doesn’t feel as good as S1, but it does conclude the story! 🙂

  10. *Adjusts glasses* Perfect!

    First of all, thank you so much for nominating me. The concept is really interesting and I would LOVE to create a harem up to my tastes~ *Creepy Otaku laugh*

    Not gonna lie, I only know two characters from this list; but those two are my favorites in their respective worlds! Hokuto is bae, I would love to have her in my harem too! The way she can be both klutzy and responsibile was one of the reasons why I loved Tokyo Ravens!

    It was a good read, I would try to reply to this post soon!
