Interesting list there. I noticed a lot of Shinkai movies and Ghibli works in your anime section not that it’s a bad thing. It’s cool that you put Dareka no Manazashi. That’s an underrated work, and I’m glad someone is talking about it. My favorite Shinkai film is The Place Promised In Our Early Days and my favorite Ghibli movie is Grave of the Fireflies. In this Corner of the World is another good movie as well even though when I didn’t watch it until somewhat recently.

I hate to be that guy, but you’re aware that Atlantis and The Lion King did ripoff from anime, right? They stole characters and some storylines from Nadia: Secret of Blue Water and Kimba the White Lion respectively. The Lion King even plagiarized the song “Mbube” with “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” as documented in the Netflix doc The Lion’s Share. They trademarked the phrase “Hakuna Matata” which is pure cultural appropriation and don’t get me started on the racist implications of the hyenas.

    • Yeap. I have read about how the ideas of the english cartoon films are basically extracted and reinvented for the english audience. That being said, I’ve never watched anime (save pokemon, digimon and astro boy) until 2016.

Came to know about all these copying only when I started researching on the background of anime when I started diving into the anime culture.

Gotcha. I was wondering if you were aware of that. It does frustrate me how Hollywood gets away with these things, but if anyone else did it, they’d be sued to high heaven. I didn’t you know you didn’t watch other anime until then. Interesting how you brought up Astro Boy because that’s from the same creator of Kimba.

Okay. I was curious if you knew or not. I actually talked about ripoffs of different characters and three of them involve clones of anime characters.

Were you aware of some of the other aspects of Disney doing nefarious things involving some of their movies like what I mentioned?
